At AMSA RHS 2018 we have THREE amazing social events to ensure you can meet and have an enjoyable time with all delegates.

Cocktail Gala

When: Friday 28th Sept - doors open at 7pm

Where: The Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA). Entrance from Dean Street, only a 3min walk from the Atura Hotel.

Who: Those purchased an additional ticket with rego. A guest-list will be checked at the door.

What: An elegant evening to welcome everyone to Albury and RHS18! A range of speakers, sponsors and community members will also be there to share a champagne in anticipation of the weekend ahead.

You will receive your FREE DRINK on arrival, with a plentiful selection of gourmet canapes, pizzas and cheeses sourced from local ingredients to follow throughout the night. You will have exclusive viewing of the “Immortality” exhibition, so be sure to pop upstairs to treat yourself with a one-of-a-kind cultural experience.

The dance floor will be pumping later in the evening, so bring your dancing shoes also!

Dress Code: Cocktail Attire

Additional Drinks: The bar will be CASH ONLY. Be sure to make a cheeky pit stop at the ATM before arriving please (see map below).

Bangers Alert: The DJ will be taking song requests!

Boot Scootin' Bush Dance

When: Saturday 29th Sept - from 7pm

Where: The Kinross Woolshed, Thurgoona.

What: Get your RMs shined, flannels ironed and cowboy hats on and get ready to shake it out after a long day of enthralling academics. There will be a buffet feast to fill your belly before the bush dancing, whip cracking and activities commence! You’ll be up dancing all night long with live music from Blackberry Jam Bush Band, WSU’a very own Hawkeye Reis, and local Albury boys ELK to wrap up the night.

Who: All delegates with full rego

Transport: ALL delegates are encouraged to utilise bus transport provided

  • Getting there: First bus will leave Atura from 6:30pm, last bus at 7.15pm
  • Getting home: First bus out at 10:30pm ono, Last bus out at 11:30PM so be sure to be on it!

Dress Code: Barnyard/bush/country/rural. Think all things flannel, denim, akubras, boots, RMs and farmer Joe. Be as creative as your heart desires!

Beverages/Bar: All drinks to be purchased additionally, cards accepted.

Afters: Paddy’s Hotel Albury may be a great place to kick on to after the bush dance if you so desire (although with a great brekky and day of academics planned for Sunday we recommend finding time for a kip!). Paddy’s is a short walk from Atura where busses will drop you home. Download the “Australian Venue Co.” app to receive $10 free credit to be used at the bar!

Breakfast by the Murray

When: Sunday 30th September from 7:30am

Where: Mitta Mitta Canoe Club

What: You simply cannot visit Albury without soaking in the sun by the Murray. Join us for a riverside pancake breakfast kindly put on by the Albury Rotary Club, whose volunteer efforts have enabled us to donate extra profits to Drought Relief Programs to help our farmers!

Transport: ALL delegates are encouraged to utilise bus transport provided

  • Getting there: Buses leave Atura at 7:15am
  • Getting back: Buses to the Albury Entertainment Centre will leave breakfast at 8:30am, with the academic program starting at 9.00am sharp.

Dress Code: Casual. Whatever you plan to wear to academics straight after. (No judgement if you are still in your horse costume from the night before!)

Important: Be sure to bring your RHS18 KeepCup for tea and coffee

SOCIAL EVENT FAQs

How do I get to and from social events?

Friday: MAMA is a 5min walk (400m in a straight line...) from Atura on Dean Street!

Saturday & Sunday: Buses are being provided for all delegates as transport to & from the Bush Dance and Breakfast. We strongly encourage you utilise this to ensure you have a safe and carefree time. Please, please, please utilise the buses!

Taxis: When in Albury please call 6025 2255

PSA: UBER DOES NOT EXIST IN ALBURY - use the buses for your ride sharing requirements!

 

What if I don’t drink alcohol?

Our social program is designed to be inclusive for all RHS18 attendees, with entertainment and activities at each social to be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of whether you are drinking or not.

 

What if I need help during a social or need to report something?

A full Welfare team will be on hand to ensure everyone has a safe time during our social events. If you need help or assistance with anything throughout the weekend please call Welfare on 0435 736 654.

 

What if I have the midnight munchies for potato gems after a social?

Never fear, our friends at Sweethearts Pizza (471 Dean Street, Albury) are here and humbly welcome RHS18 delegates. Established over 30 years ago as a late-night potato gem haven for carbohydrate refuelling, Sweethearts are generously offering 15% off all purchases. Open Fri - 14:30-04:00, Sat - 11:00-05:00 and Sun - 14:30-23:30. Rumour has it, their milkshakes are to die for too!

 

What if I have the direction sense of a sheep?

Please see handy map below and ensure to have GoogleMaps downloaded on your phone prior to venturing inland where 4G is a rarity.
